The first of our signature heritage events – In Situ – an Intimate Bawa Experience was held on the 25th July 2020 to celebrate the life and iconic contribution of Geoffrey Bawa. The event was hosted in partnership with the curatorial team of the Lunuganga Trust and the BAWA100 programme.
Highlights of the programme included a guided visit to the “The Gift” installed at Lunuganga, including the newest installation by Dayanita Singh and other art installations by renowned artists – Dominic Sansoni, Lee Mingwei, Kengo Kumar and many more. The guests moved on to visit the iconic Bentota Beach, the famed start of Bawa’s Tropical Modernism; with conversations and personal anecdotes with Channa Daswatte, protégé of Geoffrey Bawa and architect, Ismeth Raheem who worked with the man himself on the original art for Bentota Beach. The experience was perfected with an exquisite culinary journey by the team at Bentota Beach, The Cinnamon Luxury Collection.
